How to prepare for developing cosmetics under your own brand

· NADEL

Your idea, audience, references, packaging and timing: what to gather before the first conversation with a development team.

A cosmetics idea becomes clearer when you can explain who the product is for, its role in everyday care and the result you have in mind. You do not need every answer before the first conversation. Separate decisions you have already made from questions you would like to discuss with the development team.

1. Describe the product and its audience

Start with the product you want to create and the people who will use it. This could be a shower gel, hand cream or hair care product. Describe the texture, fragrance and way of using it.

  • Product format and planned volume.
  • Audience needs and price segment.
  • Preferences for feel, fragrance and appearance.

2. Prepare references and priorities

References help explain expectations. Share a few examples and say what you like about each: its texture, packaging or brand presentation. Identify essential characteristics and preferences that are open for discussion.

3. Consider the packaging

The container and dispensing method are part of your product concept. Consider whether a bottle, jar or tube would suit it, the volume you have in mind, and whether it needs a pump or spray. If you have not decided, say so in the brief.

4. Outline quantities, budget and timing

Give an approximate quantity, a target budget and a preferred launch date. These are starting points for discussion, rather than a confirmed quotation or schedule. Terms and timing can be agreed after the specific project has been reviewed.

5. Gather material for the first conversation

  • A short description of the idea and audience.
  • References with explanations.
  • Preferences for format and packaging.
  • Approximate quantities, budget and timing.
  • Questions that still need an answer.

Once you have gathered this information, tell the NADEL team about your project in the brief. A clear description helps start a focused conversation about your future product.
